The Foundation Supported E3B Award Recipients And Their Families

On April 17, 2023 Soldiers from throughout The Old Guard were recognized in an E3B award ceremony in Comny Hall on Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall. The Foundation Of The Old Guard recognized the acheivment of each award recipient by presenting them with a PX gift card. Major General Allan M. Pepin (USA), Commanding General United States Army Military District of Washington/Commander, Joint Force Headquarters-National Capital Region participated in the ceremony. (U.S. Army photos by Cpl. The Old Guard Takes The Point Of The 2023 Cherry Blossom Festival Parade

The 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) marched in the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade on April 15th. The National Cherry Blossom Festival has been a tradition in the United States Army Military District of Washington for over a century. The festival commemorates cherry blossom trees sent from the Mayor of Tokyo in 1912. The festival honors the enduring friendship between the people of the United States and Japan. Foundation Supports Old Guard Spooky Block Party and Haunted Stables

Old Guard Regimental Commander, COL Dave Rowland, and his team planned and executed an outstanding family-oriented event for Old Guard Soldier families on Saturday night October 28th – the Spooky Block Party and Haunted Stables. The Foundation was invited to participate and we’re very glad we were able to do so. Many said this was the best family event in years and we got to be a part of it. 2022 Old Guard Association Reunion - Arlington, VA

Assocation President and former RCO, COL(R) Joe Buche presents 1 of 3 educational $1,000 scholarships to SGT Josue Patricio.

The Association lays a wreath at it's memorial stone located in Arlington National Cemetery adjacent to the Tomb Of The Unknown Soldier.

Repatriation

Cpt. Gavin Church, Bravo Company, 3rd U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard), Staff Sgt. John Lyons, Charlie Company, and Staff Sgt. Matthew Rogers, Charlie Company, presents flags to family members of 12 Army airmen that were honored during a repatriation funeral service at Arlington National Cemetery.

Civil War Reinterment

Soldiers from 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment, (The Old Guard) carry the remains of an American Revolutionary War veteran, Samuel Howard, during a reinterment ceremony at Resthaven Cemetery in Baxter, Kentucky. The family’s remains were exhumed from Wix Howard Cemetery in Harlan, Kentucky due to erosion. Brig. Gen. Mark Toy, commander of The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers South Pacific Division, presents the national colors to Sharon Osborne, a descendent of Samuel Howard, during the ceremony. Osborne worked closely with USACE representatives to save the family’s remains from an eroding away in the Cumberland River.

Regimental Orientation Program (ROP)

Col. Jason T. Garkey, Commander, 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard), presents the Buff Strap to Soldiers during a Regimental Orientation Program (ROP) graduation ceremony in Conmy Hall, Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall, Va. Approved for use in 1922, The Buff Strap is one of only a few Distinctive Unit Trimmings that survives in the United States Army. Capt. ROP is a three-week program designed to train new Soldiers in rifle movements, ceremonial marching, and uniform styles unique to The Old Guard.

Outreach

Soldiers assigned to the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard) participate in a wreath-laying and firing demonstration at Mount Vernon, Virginia. The wreath laying and firing demonstration were held in honor of George Washingtons Birthday and Presidents Day. The firing demonstration was held to show the public how the Army moved against the enemy during the Revolutionary War and the fighting techniques of the Army with Brown Bess muskets replicating the ones used in that time period.

Dignified Transfer

Soldiers from the 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard), conduct a Dignified Transfer for Sgt. 1st Class Stephen B. Cribben at Dover Air Force Base, Del. Cribben was killed from wounds sustained while engaged in combat operations in Logar province, Afghanistan, and was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne).

TOG Support

529th Regimental Support Company mechanics check the fuel line of a military High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle on Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall, Va. Soldiers in the motor pool work in buddy pairs to ensure quality work is always done. The 529th paint shop is also responsible for painting all equipment, ranging from vehicles to WWII anti-tank guns, in The Old Guard. A 529th Allied Trades specialist sprays yellow sealant paint onto a model casket. The 529th motor pool houses the only fully functional paint shop run completely by soldiers in the Army.

Caisson Platoon Open House

3d U.S. Infantry Regiment families visit the U.S. Army Caisson Platoon’s Open House and Hayride and get a rare opportunity to feed one of platoon’s 58 horses who live in the Caisson stables on Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall. The 3d U.S. Infantry Regiment (The Old Guard)’s Caisson Platoon stables were transformed into a Spring-themed festival of activities for children and adults alike.
